Position Description: The Department of Counseling and Psychology is seeking a colleague to join us as an Assistant/Associate Professor of School Psychology to contribute to our goal of accessible, affordable, and quality education as well as our core values of excellence and achievement, compassion, integrity, knowledge, diversity, initiative, and collaboration. The School Psychology program is a Specialist Degree program at the same level as Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degrees in other states. We provide an excellent training opportunity to prepare students to become a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) in the state of Texas, or work as a School Psychologist in other states. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for the Nationally Certified School Psychologist credential from NASP. Our diverse department faculty seeks to serve students from across the county, state, and country with a focus on military families. Job Summary: The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for the teaching/learning process but will also keep an active research agenda and participate in the necessary operations of the institution. Minimum Requirements: Summary of Qualifications Doctorate in School Psychology Licensed as a LP, LSSP, or license-eligible in Texas Tenure-track faculty members in the rank of assistant/associate professor shall hold the earned doctorate in School Psychology approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as appropriate to the academic area they serve. In addition, the candidates shall be licensed as either a Licensed Psychologist or a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology or be license-eligible in the state of Texas. They shall have demonstrated ability in the discipline of School Psychology and show clear promise of teaching excellence. Preferred Qualifications: Nationally Certified School Psychologists (NCSP).Familiarity with NASP accreditation standards and process. Position Description: The position of Licensed Specialist in School Psychology is available at East Central ISD for the 2019-2020 school year. Assess the psychological and educational needs of students referred to special education services.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:1. Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students. Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.2. Develop psycho-evaluation reports and behavior intervention plans.3. Conduct or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.4. May serve as case manager and implement the special education assessment process for students on assigned campuses. 5. Meet with parents and staff to discuss pertinent background information and test results. Conduct group, individual, and family counseling sessions and facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed problems. 6. Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students, interpretation of assessment data, and implementation of behavior intervention plans in managing disruptive students. 7. Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.8. Present staff development training in assigned schools to enable school personnel with identify and work more effectively with students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances. 9. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make changes based on findings. 10. Participate in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.11. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.12. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations. 13. May provide clinical supervision to intern, or trainee. 14. Other duties as assigned.NOTE: Not all applicants will be interviewed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Master’s degree in psychology from accredited college or university Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in School Psychology granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of psycho-social development Bilingual preferred EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure. Frequent sitting, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, pushing/pulling and twisting. Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension. Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assisting non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying.
