House Bill 1 of Special Session Gets Hearing

House Bill 1, filed by Representative Larry Gonzales during the special session has been scheduled for public hearing. This bill seeks to establish the continuation of the Texas Medical Board, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors and the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners. Within this bill these agencies would be continued through September 1, 2019.Senate Bill 20, the Senate version, went to committee, hearing and was voted on before noon.

HB1 is scheduled for public hearing on July 19 @ 1pm or upon final adjourn/recess in JHR 140 within the Texas Capitol. Click here for the Notice of Public Hearing. TASP will be present and providing testimony in support of HB1.

If you are not able to attend the hearing in person, you may still contact your legislator by phone. Let them know as a licensee of TSBEP and their constituent that you support the passage of House Bill 1. The link to find out who represents you is at the bottom of this email. The message is simple:

“My name is ____________. I am a constituent of_________________. As a licensee of the TSBEP as a licensed specialist in school psychology (and/or LPA/LP), I support the passage of the House Bill 1. The passage of this bill is imperative to continue the board that licenses LSSPs, who protect and promote quality school-based mental health services for students in Texas. Additionally, I request that in the future the Legislature also ensure LSSPs have adequate representation, with a full seat on the TSBEP.”
