Practitioners face complex issues when a crisis occurs and this advanced workshop will focus on real world issues for schools K-12. Law suits have been filed against school personnel for failure to gain parental consent before intervening after a crisis and for not notifying parents when students were known to engage in self mutilation or suicidal behavior. A recent case raised the question of what postvention responsibilities schools have following a suicide. A new term, “bullicide” has emerged as parents of suicide victims have attempted to hold schools accountable for not eliminating bullying.Learning Objectives: These cases will be presented in terms of best practice guidelines and participants will be provided with suggestions to reduce potential liability.
